ALBANY — Gov. Andrew Cuomo today announced a major economic-development deal for the state: a $4.4 billion investment from Intel, IBM and other technology companies to create and retain about 6,900 jobs.

The agreement over five years will expand research and development facilities in Albany, Canandaigua and Utica, as well as facilities in East Fishkill and Yorktown Heights in Westchester County.

Intel has agreed to establish its new nanotechnology facility at the nanotechnology campus at the state University at Albany.

The announcement came at Cuomo’s economic-development conference in Albany, where President Bill Clinton will be the keynote speaker.

“This unprecedented private investment in New York’s economy will create thousands of jobs and make the state the epicenter for the next generation of computer chip technology,” Cuomo said in a statement. Cuomo predicted the deal will lead to 2,500 additional high-technology positions, including:

>> 800 at nanotechnology campus at SUNY Albany.

>> 950 at IBM’s offices in Yorktown Heights East Fishkill.

>> 450 at SUNY Institute of Technology in Utica.

>> 300 at CNSE’s Smart System Technology & Commercialization Center in Canandaigua.

Cuomo said the expansion will also mean about 1,500 construction jobs in Albany and 400 in Utica. The deal will keep about 2,500 jobs in Albany, Canandaigua and East Fishkill, the Democratic governor said.

Cuomo said no public dollars will be used in the agreement, except for $400 million at the SUNY College for Nanoscale and Science Engineering in Albany, including $100 million for energy efficiency program. The state investment in CNSE will be made over a five-year period.
